Danny Elfman’s quirky, melodic score to Tim Burton’s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic Children’s book
This wonderfully quirky melodic score and songs from Hollywood’s great Danny Elfman (The Simpsons, The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Wolfman), harks back to Edward Scissorhands, Burtons’ and Elfman’s most personal work, and is a return to the composer’s “vintage” sound from the late 1980s and early 1990s.

“…a wonderful listen. The opening Wonka’s Welcome Song is a gas, and the four child-chastising Oompa-Loompa tunes are undeniably delightful, both musically (coming in rock, Bollywood, psychedelic and pop flavours) and lyrically (thanks, Roald). Plus, tracks combining Elfman’s signature soaring chorals, Gothic organ and crashing cymbals with energetic bursts of synths (Finale) and Indian instrumentation (The Indian Palace) are his most thrilling in years”.
- Empire Magazine
“this is the best Elfman score in almost a decade. It marks the long-overdue return to the “vintage” sound we all fell in love with in the late 1980s and early 1990s, and reminds us what a magical, beautiful composer he can be… This is the homecoming”.
- Movie Music UK
“…a fantastical return to the Edward Scissorhands style of film scoring, mixed with a touch of his (Elfman) current "modern" sound… The songs range through a variety of styles - but all retain that vintage Oingo Boingo edge that made Elfman such a success in the first place”.
“With dark and catchy songs and a thematic score… this one's a winner in my book”
- ScoreTrack.net
“…one of the composer's very best and charming scores in a long time... A wonderful score”.
- FilmMusicSite.com
“It’s the solid 1-2 combination of inventive songs and memorable and engaging score that make this album an absolute must buy, Elfman mega-nerd or not”.
